Situated on Fore Street in Hartland, North Devon, The Small School was founded by Resurgence Editor, Satish Kumar, in 1982.

The Small School is an independent school for 11 to 16 year olds with an emphasis on pupil-centered holistic education; it has an outstanding academic record, regularly being at the top of the Devon schools league tables.

The students study academic subjects in the mornings whilst in the afternoons they follow other pursuits such as; photography, film making, pottery, woodwork, gardening, rock climbing and outdoor activities.
