Peace Tree 1
This tree was planted in the churchyard of St Brannocks church by American soldiers, who had been helping to tidy the churchyard in the absence of its normal caretakers, who had likely been called up.

Peace Tree 2
American soldiers were very much taken with Braunton, itâ??s beautiful surroundings and itâ??s friendly population. They planted what became known as the Peace Tree as a mark of friendship, before they left to fight in Normandy.

Peace Tree 3
The plaque underneath the Peace Tree describes its purpose: â??This tree was planted on June 5th, 1944, by American enlisted men of diverse faiths visiting and volunteering work upon this sacred ground during the War of Liberation as a personal tribute to Britainâ??s glorious stand against aggression.â?
