A Promising Start
By his early thirties Thomas Fowler had left the fellmonger's yard behind and established himself as a printer and bookseller in Torrington High Street - in the building now occupied by the National Westminster Bank, just across the road from Torrington Museum. This was a remarkable achievement given his humble beginnings but even more so given that he built his printing press on a plan of his own design.
